MY FAVORITE SCENE and the one that EASILY stands out to me as what it means is part of the the feces on the floor scene because the girl they are making eat it is crying her eyes out saying please don't make me eat that please. and what does the rest of the group do? they glare at her for rocking the boat. THe one that knows better is always hated by society. The smart person is punished by the group. that happens all the time.
THe Marriage Ceremony Where the Libertines perform the Wedding and then Not let the Bride and groom touch each other. Obviously a statement about how marriage is meaningless. Or because after the cermony the Libertines violate the Bride and groom seperately. possibly stating that once state marries you they f*ck you sperately?
NExt where the Libertines pick the person with the best BUTT and their prize would be to be killed quickly rather than tortured. A statement on our disposable society?
Next the "guards" are picked based on the size of their Genitalia. and then the "guards" Start treating the Captured extremely bad even though the "guards" are captured kids themselves. Takes no profoessional analyst to see that that is easily a jab at the police. Police are normal people just like us but yet they act as if they are much more important and are insanely cruel based on the appearnace of power they have been granted.
It's stuff like that That I was wondering that you had noticed...not necessarily how it relates to your own personal life..like being vegetarian cause of the Dining room scene and what not. It's not real in the sense that no actors were harmed in the making of the film but it is real in the sense that you can for damn sure know that this type of shit has gone on somehwere and at sometime for real. Yes, the people in the films are being killed/hurt (not for real though) however they are not killed quickly they are tortured first in bizrre and cruel ways. Usually camera tricks such as in Salo when the guy shits on the floor all you see is him squat after he has undone his pants but then the camera pulls back and there is a turd on the floor and when the girl goes to eat it the camera is pulled back even further. so you can't really see the shape or anything you can see she's just eating something brown off of the floor apparently it was just a normal brownie. but from the distance of the camera and what you had seen just prior it seems awfully legitimate.
I wouldn't necesarrily say I "like" Salo but I think it is an important film just for the rorshok quality i think it posessesses. If you don't see it the way I see it (disturbing) you will probably absolutely love it! WHich should be terrifying to you. It makes caligula look like a children's story. I have heard horendous things about icthe the killer as well so with the scenes of torture. Good luck...

BTW Salo is one of those films that you have to dissect from scene one because(it's the only way to makes sense of what you are watching) if you don't you will be miserable through the whole thing, watching evil being personified.
For example I want to know or hear any theories on ending where the Libertines take turns slowly killing the kidnapped but at one point one of the Libertines turns the binoculars backwards and views the scene from an exrteme distance...Is he trying to distance himself from the scene? or what? is he mocking you the viewer? I own SALO too. But WHAT makes it fantastic? IS my question. You can't take either side because normally one would not be so cruel, so they wouldn't identify with the 4 capturers (Libertines) and one also doesn't see themselves as so weak that they would identify with the captured (Even though I think that is what pasolini was saying with his film "you're all captured and you don't even know it") but many things don't make sense within the film...I.E. why did the piano player jump out the window?
Everybody else in the movie has a roll and I think is pretty understandable. the lady that gets the kids ready for their tortures is playing the roll of a news caster the way she says all of those horrible things with a straight face. the way a news anchor would "42 dead and maimed and now this imprtant message from our friends at Listerine"

I don't think De Sade and Salo are even close I mean when they say Loosely based on De Sade they mean LOOSELY the book is much more graphic material and has far far more violence and torture in it I mean for starters the testicle roaster toliet seat is not in Salo what about eating out the women who have genital warts and what not...Salo I think is Quite different from the writing of De Sade. I don't think If they were to accurately try to depict Sade no movie studio would distrribute it. Salo, there is no splatter just very graphic torture and really graphic scenes to make you feel really depressed. usually people become involved in movies (I would do this or i would act this way in that situation) but not this movie you just sit helpless just like the people on the screen and it's really uneasy.
